Change Windows 7's Orb (Start Button)

This article explains to you how to change the Windows 7's ORB, the circular button that replaces the Start button from XP and previous versions of Windows.
  1. Locate Explorer.exe. Go to the location of the file Explorer.exe. The usual path of this file is "C:\Windows".
  2. Take ownership. To do this you need to be logged in as an Administrator. Right click the file, select the tab "Security", and click on edit. Check the "Full control" tick for your user.
  3. Make a Backup. Since this process is dangerous, you should make a backup file. This is done by making a copy of the file, and store it without changes.
  4. Get a PE Editor. The PE Editors are programs with the function of editing .exe files. This editor can edit various things of them, including the images they contain.
  5. Open the file. Open Explorer.exe with the PE Editor you got. Every program has its own instructions, look in up in the manual or on the Internet. Once you get how to change the image resources of a file with the program, make a image you like.
  6. Make an image. Make an image of the same size than the original, and replace the three states of the button. These are, the normal button (mouse away), the hover button (mouse hover), and the down button (mouse pressing it).
  7. Save the file. Save the file replacing the original one. Reboot you computer and enjoy.
